How Titan handles a machine purchase in Canada: needs assessment, quotes, freight and customs, rigging, installation, training, parts and service.

Titan Group Equipment supplies industrial machines built by other manufacturers and stays your Canadian contact from the first conversation to the years after start-up. Every quote covers the machine together with delivery, installation and operator training. This page explains how each stage usually runs, what we need from you, and which details are settled in writing for each machine.
1. Needs assessment
The choice starts with the work, not the brochure. Before suggesting a model we ask for:
- the parts or products you make, with drawings, samples or photos where possible;
- materials and ranges: steel and aluminum thickness, panel types, paper weight in gsm, film type and gauge;
- target output per shift and the number of shifts;
- the space available, door openings and floor condition;
- your supply voltage and available amperage, compressed air and any gas supply;
- who will run and maintain the machine.
This is also where practical limits get checked. A 4 x 2 m laser that will not fit through the loading door, or a cup former whose size range stops short of your largest cup, is better ruled out on paper than on the floor.
2. Comparing manufacturers
Because we work with many manufacturers, a shortlist can include machines from different countries and levels of automation that do the same job. We compare them on the points that decide daily results: the controller and software, what is standard and what is optional, loading and unloading options, wear parts and how they are supplied, and the utilities each machine needs. 3. Quotation
A quote names the exact model and configuration, the options and tooling included, and the scope of delivery, installation and training. It also states the points that vary by manufacturer and model, rather than leaving them to assumption:
- delivery terms, usually written as an Incoterms rule, which set where cost and risk pass from seller to buyer;
- expected lead time;
- warranty terms and what they cover;
- payment terms;
- what your plant must provide before installation;
- recommended start-up spare parts.
4. Freight and customs coordination
Most manufacturers in our catalog are based outside Canada, so a typical order involves export packing, ocean or road freight and customs clearance. We coordinate these steps as your single contact. For each import, the goods need a 10-digit tariff classification (the first six digits are the international Harmonized System code, the last four are Canadian), a country of origin and a value for duty. Classification and origin set the duty rate, and according to the Canada Border Services Agency, GST of 5% applies to most goods at the time of importation (as of 2026). Which party acts as importer depends on the delivery terms; if it is your company, it needs a business number and an import-export program account. Electrical approval is planned at the same time. Electrical equipment must be certified or field evaluated before it is used in Canada; a field evaluation follows CSA SPE-1000 and is done by an inspection body accredited by the Standards Council of Canada. We also check the machine's voltage against your supply, since Canadian plants commonly run 347/600 V or 120/208 V three-phase while many machines are built for 380 or 400 V. 5. Rigging and delivery
Heavy machines arrive crated or on skids and must be moved from the truck to their final position. Before shipping we review the route with you: truck access, unloading method (crane, forklift or skates), door and aisle widths, floor loading and anchoring points. Larger lasers, press brakes and converting lines may arrive in several sections, so the order of unloading matters. The guide on preparing your floor for installation lists what to check.
6. Installation and commissioning
Installation covers setting the machine in place, levelling and anchoring it, and connecting power, compressed air, gas, cooling and extraction as the model requires; plan for a licensed electrician to make the power connection. Commissioning then brings the machine into production: checking axes, safety devices and interlocks, setting parameters, and running first parts on your own material until they match the drawing. In Ontario, some machine safeguarding arrangements need a pre-start health and safety review under Regulation 851 before the machine is used, so we raise it early for plants in that province.
7. Operator training
Training takes place on the installed machine, with your operators and your parts. It normally covers safe operation, the controller and programming or recipe set-up, changeovers, daily and weekly checks, and how to recognise common faults. Programmers and maintenance staff often need different sessions from operators. The number of trainees and days is written into the quote.
8. Spare parts and service
Every machine has parts that wear: nozzles and protective windows on lasers, consumables on plasma torches, punches and dies on press brakes, blades on shears and saws, cutters and glue pots on edge banders, sealing knives and heating elements on bag and cup machines. At the quote stage we recommend which parts to keep on your shelf. After go-live you contact us for parts and service, and we work with the manufacturer where its input is needed, including remote diagnosis when the machine supports it.
What is confirmed in writing
We do not make general promises on response times, lead times or warranty cover, because they differ between manufacturers and models. Each is stated in the quote for the specific machine, and the FAQ answers the most common questions about how that works.
