About Laguna Tools

Laguna Tools started in Laguna Beach, California, in 1983, when Torben Helshoj went looking for safe and precise woodworking machines for his own custom woodworking shop. An early partnership with Robland Machines International brought imported European woodworking machines to American shops. The company's history page now gives Grand Prairie, Texas, as its base.

The range grew from bandsaws, table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, sanders, lathes and dust collectors into CNC equipment. The SmartShop came first, followed by the Swift and iQ lines, and later CO2 and fiber lasers, waterjets and plasma cutters. Metalworking machinery is offered through the affiliated SuperMax and Dake brands. Laguna's chief operating officer said in 2022 that the company buys the router frames from China and finishes them with components sourced worldwide at its facility in Grand Prairie, Texas; a 2025 expansion added operating space there for assembly and logistics.

Three Laguna routers are in our catalog. The iQ Pro is a compact benchtop-size router with a 2 x 4 ft (about 0.6 x 1.2 m) vacuum table, 3 HP liquid-cooled spindle and 5-position automatic tool changer. The Swift is an entry-level steel-frame router with a 3 HP liquid-cooled spindle, in sizes from 4 x 4 ft to 5 x 10 ft (about 1.2 x 1.2 m to 1.5 x 3 m). The SmartShop 2 Pro adds an 8-position ISO 30 tool changer and a 6-zone vacuum table for cabinet and panel nesting. All three appear on the CNC routers page.
