Thermwood Corporation is an American builder of CNC routers and large-scale additive manufacturing systems, based in Dale, Indiana, where its machines are built. Thermwood says that in the 1970s it was the first company to develop and sell a CNC control system, and that it then built the first CNC router. It calls itself the oldest maker of flexible 3-axis and 5-axis high-speed machining centres of this kind.

The router range covers 3-axis machines for woodworking, plastics and composites and 5-axis machines for aerospace trimming, patterns and moulds. Thermwood also builds LSAM (Large Scale Additive Manufacturing) machines, which print and then machine thermoplastic composite moulds, tooling, patterns and parts, as well as the CutLayer additive system. It sells Cut Ready cabinet production software and certified pre-owned machines.

We list the Model 67, a fixed-gantry five-axis router with single or dual moving aluminum tables for 3D trimming, patterns and moulds. It is aimed at formed and three-dimensional parts rather than flat panel nesting, so compare it with the 3-axis machines in our CNC routers before deciding.
