About IPG Photonics
IPG Photonics Corporation develops and manufactures fiber lasers, fiber amplifiers, diode lasers and laser-based systems, with its principal executive offices in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Its annual report states that it began operations in 1990 and was incorporated in Delaware in 1998; the shares trade on Nasdaq under the symbol IPGP. IPG describes itself as vertically integrated, designing and making most key components in-house, from semiconductor diodes and optical fiber preforms to finished lasers and amplifiers.
At the end of 2025 the company had about 4,840 full-time employees, roughly 2,070 of them in the United States and 1,650 in Germany, and its major manufacturing facilities are in those two countries. Its locations list includes a facility in Oxford, Massachusetts, a European headquarters in Burbach and manufacturing in Allershausen, Germany, plus applications centres in Milan and Gliwice, Poland. In Canada, IPG Photonics Canada has offices in Burlington and Kingston, Ontario, the latter home to its Laser Depth Dynamics unit. Besides laser sources, IPG's product list covers medical laser systems, integrated materials processing systems and the LightWELD handheld line.
The LightWELD 2000 XR is an air-cooled 2 kW handheld fiber laser welder that also cleans, made in the USA; it appears with our other laser welding machines. Shops weighing it against arc processes can read laser welding vs TIG and MIG.
A good fit for
- Fab shops moving hand welding of steel and aluminum from TIG to laser
- Pre-weld and post-weld cleaning with the same handheld gun
- Short runs and repairs where a robotic welding cell would sit idle
