ILLIG traces its roots to a mechanical repair shop that Adolf Illig opened in Heilbronn, Germany, on 27 May 1946. Plastics came later: the company dates its first roll-fed automatic vacuum forming machine to 1960 and its first pneumatic RDM forming and punching machines to 1963. By the late 1970s it had built a packaging line that formed containers and then filled and sealed them in one sequence.

ILLIG Maschinenbau filed for insolvency in self-administration in April 2024. The German investor Orlando Capital completed its takeover of the business on 1 August 2024, and the company now operates as ILLIG packaging solutions GmbH under the same brand. Trade press reported that about 200 jobs were to be eliminated as a condition of the sale. ILLIG names two production sites, the Heilbronn headquarters and a plant in Sibiu, Romania, and says it has five subsidiaries and customers in more than 80 countries.

Besides cup machines, the range takes in roll-fed and pneumatic thermoformers, form-fill-seal packaging systems, in-mould labelling, tooling for its lines and retrofits of existing equipment. The ILLIG IC-RDM 75Kc listed here comes from the RDM family: a roll-fed cup thermoformer that forms and punches in one station, rated at up to 42 cycles per minute.
